Responsive website to sale cakes and party acessories.

Responsability:

Logo | UX Design | Webdesign

Summary:

Fatia Mais Doce (the sweetest slice) is a small cake producer that sells to order, especially for children’s birthdays and special events. It intends to increase sales and occupy a larger space in the local market, through the implementation of a responsive online store, adapted to all types of equipment.

The product:

The A Fatia Mais Doce project is a responsive website for the sale of cakes and party accessories especially for children. The target audience is parents of preschool and school-age children and the general public without the ability to bake cakes at home.

Project duration:

The project was carried out in 20 days, from the beginning of the research to the delivery of prototypes and took place during the month of June 2021.

The problem:

Customers currently place their orders by phone and/or email, and there is no platform where they can see images of the products they want to buy and additional information about the products.

The goal:

Create a cross-platform responsive website that allows customers to order products simply.

Persona: Lúcia

Problem statement:

Lúcia is a kindergarten teacher who needs to buy cakes online because she wants to deal with children’s in an easy way and with professional help.

User journey map:

Mapping Lúcia’s user journey revealed how helpful it would be for users to have access to a dedicated website to order cakes that include info and help to choose.

Starting the design

Paper wireframes

Initially thought to be a vertical product catalogue, after identifying the Pain Points, it was decided to elaborate more on the presentation, privilege the images and develop the descriptions of the products. Checkout will be faster and with fewer steps in the process. Develop a purchase help page.

Digital wireframes:

We spent some time running wireframes in an attempt to bridge all the pain points we found and save some time with prototypes. I think it has been achieved, since the final version has undergone few changes.

Low fidelity prototypes:

A complete set of wireframes was executed, with all website functionalities and complete checkout steps, in order to have a complete tool for the usability study.

Low fidelity prototype

Usability study: findings:

Having conducted 2 usability studies, the first defined the general measures to be implemented and the second helped us to refine the entire set of wireframes in order to be able to go to the high-fidelity prototype with more security.

Round 1 findings

  1. Big images for the products
  2. Good descriptions of the products
  3. Refine the responsive behaviour

Round 2 findings

  1. More images of the products
  2. A good user help
  3. Easy checkout

Refining the design

Mockups

There wasn’t a lot of work going from wireframes to mockups. Almost everything was in the right place and with the right function.

Hight-fidelity prototype

The final prototype features a clean and easy flow for product viewing, selection, and ordering.

Accessibility considerations

Provide access to users who are vision-impaired through adding Alt text to images for screen readers.

Used icons to help make navigation easier.

Used imagery of all products to help all users better understand what they are ordering.

Going forward

Takeaways

Impact

The website, completely responsive and with the Mobile version completely readjusted, makes users feel that there was maximum concern with usability.

What I learned

The main lesson learned from this project is that the more attention is paid to user research, competitive audit, and usability studies, the easier it is to successfully complete the project.

Next steps

Use the best UX Writer techniques for product descriptions and help texts.

Conduct final usability round to smooth out the last few edges and check specific points.

Implement a user search routine to follow the evolution of times and improve the product with a view to capturing the market and maintaining customers.
